International Photography Competition

--GLOBAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION--

14 July 2009- Plan international, together with the photographic organization Shoot Experience and MTV has launched a global photography competition that will give young people the opportunity to express how they feel about the world they live.

The said photography competition, called ‘Growing up in the 21st century’, aims to encourage entrants to look at their place in the world and think about the limitations, advantages and opportunities that come from being born male or female.

The philosophy behind the competition is to empower the youth to get involved in global issues and influence the decision-making process of the governments.

MECHANICS:

To enter you must be aged between 11 – 25. Deadline is on 31 July. This is a free to enter competition and is open to young people worldwide.

Entrants are being asked to submit up to 3 of either photographs, drawings or graphic designs that cover the following briefs:

  • Because I am a girl
  • Because I am a boy
  • What's holding me back?
  • What could I be?

The submissions must include a brief explanation on why each photo demonstrates the photographer’s feelings towards growing up in the 21st century.

Those selected will then have their work displayed at the United Nations headquarters, New York, in time for International Youth Day 2009 on 12 August, as well as other sites globally.

Find out more and enter the competition via the Shoot Nations website.
